Fishing Victoria's West Coast With Jack Auld
18 June 2013
Well, what a hectic month it's been on both the fishing front and planning the fit out of my new Haines Hunter 675 Offshore.
Greg Hurst and I have been spending a lot of hours chasing a big "barrel" Bluefin tuna in Greg's 600 Classic down at Portland. We had five hook ups on the big tuna and with a number of unlucky situations, we lost them all.
The best lure on the barrels was the Pakula Evil angel with a mouse head ran off the short rigger. We were also kept very busy on the school size bluefin, one day alone we caught & released 54 bluefin ranging from 8-22kg. We also tagged a number of tuna with the new Hook'em tag pole which was very easy to use and I hope someone gets the chance to catch the tuna we tagged again someday. Off the water is very nice and quiet where we stay at night, it's about 10min out of town on a farm in self-contained log cabins where the farmer Al is always up for a friendly chat.
Another great feature on my boat is the lean post.
The Melbourne Boat Show just gone was a huge success for Haines Hunter and I really enjoyed helping out on all four days of the show. Was great to catch up with so many keen anglers throughout the show and meet new people in the industry.
As a few might already know, my newly released model 675 Offshore has started being built and is taking shape and looking very impressive. It's fair to say that I am starting to get itchy feet and can't wait to fire up the 250hp Yamaha and go fishing. To stay up to date with the build, add me on Facebook or keep an eye out on Haines Hunter's wall.
Until next time, happy fishing and boating!
