Fishing Western Port With Gawaine Blake

The water has tipped 17 degrees now and the fish have fired in a big way!

This week has seen Hasting fishing well for Snapper on the edges of the channel and in the 10-14m zone from the channel to the spit. There is still a lot of weed in the area but it’s mid water so if you fish through it you still catch.

Observation point through to Cowes in the 14-20m zone is probably the pick of places at the moment with good numbers of Snapper to 5.4kg and Gummy Sharks to 14kg.

The evenings have seen the Corals fishing well, on a recent charter we got a dozen Snapper to 6.2kg and a magic by catch of a 25kg Mulloway.

As always you need to sound the Snapper up and give them at least an hour to fire up, fresh Squid and Salmon have been the best baits.

The squid are fishing very well at Flinders and throughout the north arm.

Also there are good numbers of Whiting in 8-10m off Tankerton, fresh squid strips and Mussel have been the go on the run in tide.

Be safe on the water and I’ll see you on the Hunt.

Cheers,

Gawaine
