Fishing Western Port With Gawaine Blake

Western Port has turned on the goods as it does throughout the year!

With the water heating up the Snapper bite has become more predictable with different areas through out the port firing at different times around the clock.

Mornings see the best bite off Silver leaves through to Observation point and Eagle rock in the north arm. The Afternoons has Elizabeth Island and the Corals firing well with Esso and Lysarts in the North arm.

If you manage to find some space away from the rest in slightly shallower water the rewards have been worth it with bigger Snapper and numbers of Table size Gummy sharks.

For those who are looking for something else there are good numbers of Squid all along the weed beds of the Port from Flinders- Quail bank in 3-6m of water try a mixture of colors in 3-3.5 artificial jigs with one Silver whiting under a float while on the drift.

The Whiting are turning up again in their usual haunts such as Tortoise bank and Middle spit try fishing slightly deeper at first in 5-7m it might take a few moves to locate them but once located you should be able to get a feed.

Be safe and have fun on the water and remember life’s better in Haines Hunter!
